Concept drafts

Sketches were based off crabs I caught the previous summer in my trap.

Zbrush sculpt

Segments were sculpted separately and then mirrored.

Polypaint

Using previous illustrations I’ve done as well as photographs I’ve taken, I digitally “painted” the crab carapace and limbs.

Rendering

I was heavily inspired by Van Gogh’s Two Crabs (left) when deciding the layout of my render. I also visualized the crab in an underwater environment, in an eelgrass bed.
